Experience in Resource Efficiency:
Nora Steurer is a student of International Development and Economics at the Universities of Vienna and Bonn. She has gained extensive work experience in the area of resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production while working as a consultant for the UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre in Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP). There, she worked on projects in the area of life cycle analysis, global value chain and resource efficiency of distinct industry branches.
While in Vienna, she has also worked as consultant for the United Nations in Vienna.Nora Steurer is active in a local student organisation concerned with sustainability named oikos (“Students for sustainable Economics and Management”) where she is a member of the executive board.
She has participated in various conferences concerned with environmental challenges among which are the conference “Creating Solutions for Sustainable Consumption & Production” and “SCORE! 2006” (“Sustainable Consumption Research Exchange”).
Interest in Resource Efficiency:
I have a high interest in sustainability issues, particularly where resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production are concerned. Enhancing resource efficiency certainly is one of humanities main challenges, being linked to major topics like climate change (resource use leading to an increase in consumption and production leading to an increase in CO2 emissions), population growth (leading to increased consumption) and economic growth (also leading to increased consumption). Thus it is a very broad and important topic worth while studying.
Expectations for the World Resource Forum:
I believe that in order to make changes, you have to convince people of these changes. In order to do that you have to inform them in a manner that is both profound and easy to understand, that touches their relevant lives and worlds. And for that you have to be extremely well informed yourself. Being informed also means knowing where the information comes from, knowing “Point A” so to say. In the case of sustainability in the ecological sense as well as in general, this means, knowing the people who where pioneers in the relevant field, knowing what they have to say, how they say it and how they convince others. It means getting to know their spirit. Thus, I expect the World Resource Forum to be an excellent opportunity for getting to know Pioneers in the field of environmental sustainability. I expect them to be inspiring also for being more motivated and effective in future work in the sustainability area. I am looking forward to enhancing my knowledge and network in such a crucial domain.
