The World Resources Forum 2009 was held at the Swiss ski resort Davos, the conference venue with the highest elevation in all of Europe. The combination of idyllic Alpine landscape, urban atmosphere and the wide range of services, infrastructure, fine food and activities are unique. The WRF '09 took take place on the second and third day of the R'09 World Congress. The R'09 promoted innovative technologies and frameworks for resource management to improve material and energy efficiencies in the production, use, and recycling of materials.

A video conference system linked Switzerland and Japan (Nagoya) and Switzerland and Germany (Berlin) for the R'09 conference as well as for the World Resources Forum.
