Jun. 10: Nominate “radical and systemic eco-innovation” examples for OECD project

Dear WRF2011 stakeholders,

The OECD is undertaking a project on Green Growth and Eco-innovation that aims to better understand how innovation can result in new, effective solutions to global challenges and to provide industry with tools and examples to improve their contributions to sustainable development.

 

If countries are to tackle climate change and other environmental challenges, they will need to engage in not only incremental improvement but also a broad range of eco-innovations in the medium to long term. As part of this project, the OECD therefore is collecting interesting examples of “radical and systemic eco-innovation” in the business sector, with the aim to identify factors and policies that can support and facilitate the longer-term changes necessary to achieve green growth.

Feb. 10: Videos of the Davos Talks now available

On the occasion of the first World Resources Forum in Davos in September 2009, the Aachen Foundation (www.aachener-stiftung.de) in collaboration with Zeitfilm (www.zeitfilm.de) and the German journalist Bert Beyers interviewed some of the most knowledgeable people in the field of sustainable resource use.

 

The results of this effort are a number of 8’-films, showing 12 people and their ideas about resource use and sustainability.

 

Some of the films are in German language, some in English.

 

As of today these films can be watched at www.worldresourcesforum.org/video-clips or www.faktor-x.info/multimedia/videos.

Nov. 09: WRF supports Amsterdam Declaration of the Club of Rome

The Global Assembly of the Club of Rome recently met in Amsterdam, bringing together its members and representatives from its 33 National Associations and its European Support Center to review and guide the global activities of the Club. In addition the Club of Rome organized from October 26 to 27 a two days conference on climate, energy and economic recovery.

 

As one of the results the "Amsterdam Declaration" was published on Oct. 27, 2009.

In this declaration the Club of Rome calls for "urgent action to avert the growing risk of catastrophic climate change".

Sep. 09: World Resources Forum presents Declaration

Sustainability needs new economic structures

 

Climate Change is only a symptom of another even greater problem: our current economic system needs too much natural resources. On 16th September, the participants of the World Resources Forum (WRF) in Davos launched a declaration listing suggestions how to solve this problem. Core message: Politicians must internationally agree on per capita targets for natural resource extraction and consumption. On 15th and 16th September international leading experts convened in Davos and Nagoya (Japan) for the first World Resources Forum (WRF).

Sep. 09: Student Reporters Blog now online

Dear colleague,

 

as of today the Student Reporters Blog for the World Resources Forum (Davos, Sept. 15-16, 2009) is online.

 

Ten selected international students are blogging live from the forum to a global audience, providing content summaries, background stories, interviews and impressions from the event.

The blog seeks to engage the resource efficiency expert community and the interested general public and we actively invite external comments. Read more...

Introduction

A growing number of technologies and products depend on scarce elements. A few examples are lithium in lithium-ion batteries, tantalum in small electronic devices, rare earth elements (REE) in permanent magnets for e.g. wind turbines, and tellurium in thin film solar cells. Feb. 09: Preliminary Program World Resources Forum now online

Dear Colleague,

 

From Sept. 15 to Sept. 16, 2009 the First World Resources Forum (WRF) will be held in Davos, Switzerland. The WRF is jointly organized by the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (Empa), the Swiss Academy of Engineering Science (SATW), and the Factor 10 Institute.
