First impression from UNEP Resource Panel
A minute after the end of UNEP Resouce Panel, I have spoken to Kristine Koch and Regina Kohlmeyer from Umwelt Bundes Amt in Germany.
KN: What was the most suprising information presented?

Regina Kohlmeyer: "We consume to much resources"– this sentece has been repeated several times today. Werner Bosmans gave a presentation that was unique. This was the fairy tale of tragedy of commons and that solution of the overuse has certain limits as well. I think this a very interesting approach to talk about the legislation in the resource consumption. We have the legislation to limit emissions in the air and the water, so we think about setting limits.
KN: Which speaker delivered the most inspiring presentation?
Regina Kohlmeyer: I was impresssed by the whole institution of this pannel. 27 high grade scientist working together to think about global questions and find global answers as well as to give a quality advice. This is the interaction between science and politics which we need. It will be very fruitful.
KN: How do you see the future of resource management in your country?
Kristine Koch: We are both from Germany. We know at the moment a lot about the impact of consumpion and social implications. But we still don’t have any specific actions. How will we manage this? This is a challenging question now. We should come from general strategies to specific actions and really change something.
KN: Is it a format to delevop them? Can they be implemented afterwards?
Kristine Koch: I expect this panel to go step by step from information gathering to actions and conclusions, so we should just wait and really give advice how to make it. Lots of ideas are already existining and it is hard to bring all experts together.
